City of Buffalo Compost Facility

This facility is available for Residents within the city limits. A compost sticker is required for access. Learn more about acceptable and prohibited items at the Compost Facility (PDF)
Obtain your compost sticker from City Center:
- Stop in during regular office hours Monday through Friday 8am to 4:30pm located at 212 Central Avenue. Staff will confirm your address and give you a sticker.
- Call City Center at 763-682-1181 and have the sticker mailed to you.
Wright County Compost and Recycling Facility
They are open year round on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (closed Noon-1 p.m.). There is no appointment needed for compost, however, you must make an appointment to dispose of hazardous waste. For more information or to make an appointment, visit their website or call 763-682-7338.
Acceptable Items:
Yard waste and brush can be dropped off free of charge at the City Compost Facility. The facility excepts only brush and yard waste generated on properties within city limits. Compostable bags are preferred, but plastic bags or other containers can be used to drop off materials as long as you take your bag back with you.
Wood chips and composted soil are also available at the compost site for the public's general use. If you have questions regarding the compost facility call the City Center at 763-682-1181.
The compost site season varies but it is usually May to Mid-November.
2023 Opening Day is Friday, April 28th.
