Lawns to Legumes Grant Assistance

Lawns to Legumes Spotlight

How to Apply for Grant

Minnesota residents are eligible to apply for Lawns to Legumes cost-share funding of up to $350 to create pollinator habitat in their yards. The application period is open until Jan. 18, 2023, and applicants will be chosen and notified in February. Applications will be chosen through a randomized drawing, though priority will be given to projects within higher priority areas (see priority map), and to equitable geographic distribution.

The program aims to protect the federally endangered state bee, the Rusty Patched Bumblebee, and other at-risk pollinators. Even relatively small plantings of native flowers can help pollinators by building and connecting important habitat corridors.

All grant recipients will be asked to attend a workshop or complete a webinar.

This program focuses on four planting types that residents can install: some require more time, space, money, or maintenance than others, but could be there is a project for just about everyone.

  • Pocket Plantings
  • Pollinator Beneficial Trees and Shrubs
  • Pollinator Lawns
  • Pollinator Meadows

Application Process

This application period will run through January 18, 2023.

Applicants will be selected through a randomized drawing with priority given to projects within higher priority areas and equal geographic distribution.
